Lost World of Mount Roraima expedition – 12 days / 11 nights, starting and ending in Caracas, this expedition explores South America’s lost world – Mount Roraima – home to unique labyrinths of towering stone pinnacles, valleys of sparkling quartz crystals, and spectacular carnivorous plants (Heliamphora, Drosera, Utricularia, Brocchinia and Genlisea) along with an astounding diversity of orchids, non-carnivorous bromeliads, spectacular air plants ,unique insects (including a primitive weta) and endemic reptiles. Two expeditions will run in 2014: August 20th – September 1st and September 21st – October 2nd:
Angel Falls and Auyan Tepui expedition – 16 days / 15 nights, starting and ending in Caracas, this expedition involves an adventurous canoe trip to the base of the might Angel Falls, the tallest waterfall on earth, followed by a trek up the little-explored Auyan Tepui, home to a range of carnivorous plants that differs from that of Mount Roraima, including (Catopsis, Heliamphora, Drosera, Utricularia, Brocchinia and Genlisea) along with a treasure trove of unique plants and animals, and some of the most spectacular scenery in South America. Two expeditions will run in 2014: August 7th – August 18th and September 3rd – September 18th:
Heart of Borneo expedition – 16 days / 15 nights, starting and ending in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This expedition involves visiting many of the most spectacular and important wildlife preserves in Borneo, which remain little visited by tourists. The trip starts with a five day circular trek around the Maliau basin to see enormous waterfalls, and spectacular carnivorous pitcher plants (tree-hugging, climbing Nepenthes veitchii, as well as N. ampullaria, N. hirsuta, N. reinwardtiana and N. stenophylla). After visiting an orang-utan preserve, we then proceed to the Gunung Mulu National Park, and in canoes we speed upriver to climb Mt. Api to view the towering, blade-like limestone pinnacles, as well as N. faizaliana and N. bicalcarata, and then ascent Mt. Mulu to experience some of Borneo’s most beautiful cloudforest that is festooned with N. lowii, N. muluensis and N. tentaculata. The dates for this trip are June 25th – July 10th:
Sulawesi Tribes & Jungles expedition – 16 days / 15 nights, starting and ending in Makassar, Sulawesi. This trip involves visiting remote tribal villages in the Tana Toraja Highlands to experience amazing, bull-horn-shaped tongkonan houses, and ancient cliffside burial sites, as well as 3000 year old stone megaliths, and along the way, N. glabrata and N. tomoriana. We then begin an intrepid ascent up the rainforest-clad Mount Lumut to find populations of rare Paphiopedilum slipper orchids, N. hamata and N. eymae, and one of Sulawesi’s best birdlife trails, home to nightjars, sparrowhawks, bee eaters and fruit doves, as well as the rare pitcher plant N. pitopangii, N. nigra, N. maxima and N. tentaculata. Lastly, we travel to the Tangkoko Nature Reserve to photograph black crested macaques, spectral tarsiers, hornbills and, with luck, cuscus and winged lizards. The dates for this trip are December 6th – December 21st:
